About Emma

I'm Emma, a thirty-something year old vintage fashion and craft enthusiast from southern Finland. The things I love about vintage fashion are sustainability, quality materials, and the way that it's been made to last, but also the fact that wearing it makes me feel like a million bucks. Dressing up is, for me, a form of self-expression and creativity. "When in doubt, overdress," like Vivienne Westwood eloquently put it. While late 30s to early 40s might be my favourite period when it comes to fashion and knitwear, I've been known to dress up in fashions of later decades, too.

My main hobby is knitting. I knit both original and vintage inspired patterns. My favourite fibre to knit is wool, but in the summer months I mainly knit cotton or silk-blends. The contemporary designers that I adore are Susan Crawford, Tasha Moss and Sydney Roseweck, and I have a seemingly endless collection of authentic vintage knitting magazines and booklets in both English and Finnish.

I've been brought up in a very DIY household, and it shows; whenever I see a cool garment, felt brooch, crochet bag, etc., I ask myself: "Could I make that?" Quite often the answer is: "Yeah, probably," and then I get to work.

In addition to knitting and doing other crafts, I enjoy watching TV, reading books, dancing, and visiting house museums.

I love all things historical, except for a bunch of dumb values that should be left in the past! I am a fierce feminist and anti-racist, and I am so gay I even got gay married in 2022. My wife, while not a vintage gal herself, shares my love for slow fashion, knitting, books, movies and cosy adventures, and you'll be seeing her in my blog, too.
